Mays continues to remain heavily involved in the world of baseball, and he remains in the spotlight. In the 2002 World Series, Mays received quite a bit of press. His godson, Giants slugger Barry Bonds—who is often compared to Mays—had a phenomenal Series, even though his team would eventually lose to the Angels.
Mays rarely gives interviews, but during the series the pride he felt for his godson was evident. Still, reporters could not get him to answer the question: "Who is the greatest, you or Barry?" Mays only answered, "We are not going to get into the greatest."
He has also served as a lecturer for the Federal Job Corps, done work for the Help Young America campaign, and makes appearances on behalf of several companies he's under contract with.

I'm hoping to contact the writer of this article. I'm trying to contact Willie Mays, I wrote a song for a tribute to the Negro Baseball League. He is such an inspiration that I put his name in it. I live in Hagerstown, MD where he use to play ball. The league is called the Hagerstown Suns. You or he can view the song entitled "Born to do This" at www.Sonicbids.com/ShaddaiSons, go to the audio section, the song is toward the middle.

Was Willie Mays ever married or engaged? I grew up in SF and was a huge fan. My husband asked me if he has a wife and children after seeing Bonds' family come on the field to congratulate him. I told him that I did not know. We just cared that he was a special, wonderful, kind, incredible, baseball player who could hit anything, catch anything, steal bases, and win games. He was also a great team player and a loyal person. Pls answer this question for me. Was Willie Mays ever married or engaged? Does he have any children? Thanks so much, Carmen
